Matthew 9:12

It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

Your body is a temple

When I was a child, I learned a song at church to help me remember the books of the New Testament. "Matthew, Mark, Luke, John...." I thought all four men were from the original twelve disciples and companions of Jesus. However, Luke was a physician and never physically met Jesus. Luke traveled with Paul as a companion and physician, and Colossians 4:14 refers to him as a dear friend. Paul was born Saul, a man who persecuted Christians until he had a personal encounter with Jesus. Jesus gave Saul a new identity and name, and from that point was called Paul. In 2 Corinthians chapter 12, Paul disclosed that he had an affliction. He talks about this "thorn" in his flesh and how he asked God for healing; God chose not to heal Paul. However, He put Luke in Paul's path to help him accomplish his ministry. Our creator knows we need medical care for our physical and mental afflictions and preventive care to keep our bodies and minds running optimally. He calls our bodies temples.

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God?

Before the veil was torn, the Spirit of God lived in a temple built by man. In the Old Testament, you will find God's detailed instructions on building his temple. In 1 Kings, chapter 6, King Solomon completed the temple. I encourage you to read this chapter to understand God's vision for the dwelling place of his Spirit better. If he cared so much about a building, can you imagine how much he also cares for you?

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.

Psalm 139:13 For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb.

May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance,
